Kruger National Park: My Top Photography Tips

During a safari in Kruger National Park you’ll likely spend the whole day out in the bush spotting and photographing incredible wildlife. It is therefore imperative that you remember to take with you at least one fully charged battery and a spare memory card – you don’t want to run out of space or battery just as a leopard jumps down from a nearby tree.

As animals can be unpredictable in the way they move (apart from if you’re lucky enough to catch them sleeping!) I would recommend setting your shutter speed to circa 1/1000 to get the sharpest picture. You might also want to consider shooting in continuous mode (taking several photos in quick succession) to increase your chances of getting that perfect shot.

To keep a respectable distance from the wild animals within Kruger National Park and still be able to get some lovely close ups it is essential to pack a zoom lens. With increased focal length you are more likely to experience visible camera shake so pack a tripod if you have one or try to brace the camera against your safari vehicle.
