Occupying a grand wooden structure overlooking Seminyak’s famous Petitenget beachfront, La Lucciola is one of the area’s only beachside restaurants and a perfect lunch spot.

Accessed across a little bridge from Petitenget temple next door and the neighbouring Samaya and Legian resorts to the south, we found ourselves indulging in an early lunch on La Lucciola’s open air decking overlooking Bali’s famed white sands.

La Lucciola has a lengthy wine and cocktail list offering a range of delicious drinks to quench your thirst. Opt for the passionfruit crush for a refreshing drink (just mind the brain freeze) or a glass of prosecco to toast to your holiday!

My starter of burrata, proscuitto, peas and mint was lovely and light, perfect for the glorious sunny day. The smattering of parmesan across the top was a little overpowering for the delicate burrata in my opinion, but easily brushed off leaving a lovely balance of burrata and salty prosciutto .

Having experienced some interesting versions of eggplant (and even more interesting attempts at cooking it during our travels across Asia), Charlie was very pleasantly surprised by La Lucciola’s grilled aubergine salad with feta and pine nuts. Another light and tasty starter!

For main I opted for a richer dish of chicken and porcini mushroom pie, the pastry was perfectly golden and the pie surprisingly not too filling. I’m not convinced the pie really sat within the Italian/Mediterranean menu but it was a welcome taste of England!

The star of the show, however, was undoubtedly Charlie’s snapper, pea and lemon risotto. The beautifully fresh fish, together with the sweetness of the peas, zesty lemon, and creamy risotto rice, was the perfect taste of Italy. Of course accompanied by an obligatory glass of Pinot Grigio.

La Lucciola is also popular for those searching for a good evening meal, although personally I would advise visiting at lunchtime due to the spectacular view. With the striking palm trees towering above us, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, easily polishing off some of the chef’s classically fresh Italian dishes.

Unfortunately La Lucciola does not have a website to peruse their delicious menu in advance (you’ll have to trust me when I say it’s worth the visit!)
