About Luxembourg

Currency: Euro
Language(s): Luxembourgish, German, French (Official) – English spoken widely in the capital
When to visit: May – September
Main airports: Luxembourg City
Being a large business centre, Luxembourg airport is served by multiple European and North African destinations, including both budget and national carriers fly regular routes. With its geographical proximity to many Northern European countries, Luxembourg is also very accessible by both road and rail from its neighbouring countries.
A large number of the hotels in the city are geared to business travellers, but if you look hard enough you will be able to find some gems both in and outside the city. Hotel Simoncini offers excellent value rooms with beautiful modern art-focussed decor.
Luxembourg cuisine is an interesting mix of German, French and Italian influences. However, it does have an excellent number of top restaurants in the capital catering to many tastes. Clairefontaine offers classic Michelin-star French dining of lobster, snails and frogs legs, whilst Bacchus offers an equally classic Italian ristorante of crisp pizzas and superb risotto.
Although I’ve never been a fan of German cuisine, the city take its German influence better in the form of beer and pilsners! Just around the corner from the Casemates and the Natural Art & History museum sits Steiler, a classic Germanic pub serving an excellent selection of lagers, pilsners and ales. In summer you can grab an deck chair in the courtyard outside the pub to bask in the warm sun.
Luxembourg city is very compact and easily walkable, offering you some architectural and and cultural delights, including the Casemates du Bock (an ancient set of tunnelled fortifications), the old city (and the view down to it from Chemin de la Corniche) and the markets on Place Guillaume II. Outside on the city, you can explore the vineyard laden wine region of Moselle, the forested adventure of Mullerthal and the majestic castle of Vianden, which are all very much worth a day road tripping around the country, if not more.
