Although part of the Caribbean, Barbados is distant from the other well-known islands so the best way to get here is by plane. You can fly direct from both the US and UK into Grantley Adams International Airport located in the South of the island. Majority of Caribbean cruises will also stop at Barbados for a day or so during their tour of the islands.

For complete luxury look no further that the renowned Sandy Lane hotel complete with private beach; however there are many other gorgeous hotels within Saint James parish all offering beautiful beaches and views of the epic Caribbean sunsets. If travelling as a group it is worth looking into hiring a villa for your stay, there’s no need to search for one with a swimming pool as around the island you’ve got the choice of many stunning beaches!

On everyone’s to do list in Barbados is a trip to Oistins to join the locals at the weekly fish fry. Make sure you go hungry as there’s a wide range of delicious fish, shellfish and meat on offer, all freshly grilled for you with your choice of marinade. Looking for somewhere to dress up for – there’s nowhere more special than The Cliff. Offering fine dining overlooking the water lit up below you it’s a very romantic spot, be sure to book in advance as it’s rather popular!

On a hot, tropical island it’s always time for cocktails, and as all the wine has to be imported it is ludicrously expensive and worth avoiding. My two favourite cocktail bars in Barbados are The Lone Star (pricier option) on a gorgeous white stretch of beach in Saint James or The Tiki Bar with the longest cocktail list I’ve ever seen, and a great happy hour!

The best way to explore Barbados is to hire a car as there’s so many great places to visit spread across the island. Apart from the beautiful beaches (mainly located on the South/West coasts) there’s much more to do in Barbados – scuba dive with turtles, relax on a catamaran, horse ride in the surf and sip on Caribbean rum cocktails to your heart’s content.
