BISMA EIGHT

Zen escape within the Ubud rainforest

Location: Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Style: Luxury jungle hideaway
Budget: £££

Located a stone’s throw away from Central Ubud along Jalan Bisma, enter this luxury jungle hideaway and leave the busy Ubud roads behind you. Wander down the bamboo covered path to escape the hustle and bustle and enter Bisma Eight’s zen haven of 38 sumptuous suites set over a stunning panorama of Ubud’s famous green paradise.

The Room

As well as a number of suites around their beautiful garden, Bisma Eight’s piece de resistance are their stunning forest and canopy suites with sweeping views of the rainforest. The suites provide ultimate luxury for you to immerse yourself in. If booking a forest or canopy suite, ask for a third floor suite (which we were lucky enough to stay in) as they offer some of the best views in the hotel.

Pay attention as you are shown around your suite on arrival to discover its hidden gems including the nicest smelling mosquito repellent (which you will definitely be needing during your stay), scales to check you haven’t bought too many souvenirs, and the locations of the carefully concealed plugs built seamlessly into the wooden furniture.

The enormous Japanese cedar bathtub is the centrepiece of the bathroom. It may take 45 minutes to fill but trust me it is worth the wait, and divine bath salts are provided to enhance your soak.

Climb into the barrel-like tub with your significant other and a glass of wine from the minibar and let your worries melt away. It is worth noting that the wine in the minibar is significantly cheaper than in the restaurant!

Floor to ceiling windows overlook the jungle canopy providing the most amazing view to wake up to and enjoy the sun filter in through the forest canopy all from the comfort of your bed. Why can’t I wake up to this view everyday?

During the early evening a trolley of goodies is brought around to the suites offering additional bottled water and complimentary sugary snacks. All the staff at Bisma Eight were incredibly friendly and helpful, no request was too much to ask!

The Pool

One of the best things about Bisma Eight has to be the stunning infinity pool overlooking Ubud’s rainforest. This offers guests one of the most Instagramable spots in the hotel (if not the whole of Ubud!), and no doubt was one of the hotel’s main attractions to us and many others.

Shot with DJI Spark

There are both day beds and sun loungers poolside to top up your tan. Although at first glance there may not seem to be many beds available we never had trouble finding somewhere to relax, there are only 38 suites after all!

You’ll never have to move too far from your sunbed as The Pavilion provides refreshments to enjoy poolside. Order revitalizing coconut water served in Bisma Eight branded coconuts for only IDR 40k (warning: they’re heavier than they look!)

With every detail taken care of there are even plug sockets located beside the sun loungers so you’ll never run out of phone battery and miss out on that perfect Insta-shot! Relax by the pool all day and watch the sky change colour as the sun sets on a perfect day at Bisma.

The Food

In keeping with the Ubud culture for organic, healthy living Bisma Eight offers farm fresh food and Balinese inspired cocktails. There are three places to grab a refreshment – The Library for a morning pick me up, Copper for a classy lunch or dinner venue out on the terrace or The Pavilion which caters to all your needs poolside.

Breakfast
Bisma offers guests the experience of enjoying your breakfast from your balcony overlooking the rainforest and I don’t know why you would want to eat anywhere else!

You can eat in your pyjamas listening to the jungle come alive around you.

Simple select your options from the a la carte menu and they will be delivered to you with 15-20 minutes. I chose a healthy and fresh avocado and feta on sourdough with poached eggs, nice and light so I could jump straight in the pool after! Charlie enjoyed a waffle topped with citrus parfait and roasted pineapple to indulge his sweet tooth.

Copper Kitchen and Bar
Well known throughout Ubud as one of the coolest rooftop restaurants, Copper offers earth-to-table dining and delicious cocktails . All ingredients are super fresh and ethically sourced from their organic farm.

As we had a sumptuous dinner booked for the evening (and the rest of the day to spend in a bikini) I tried Copper’s tuna sashimi. Charlie went for the Vietnamese pancake filled with duck, both offering the perfect light snack we needed before soaking up the sunshine.

Although we didn’t have dinner in the hotel, our mouths did water at the sound of various themed nights and events that Copper host, including steak nights, cocktail and canapé pairings and gastronomic tasting adventures.

Poolside

If you can’t tear yourself away from the view to make it to the restaurant for lunch however, the pavilion beside the pool serves delicious snacks, creative cocktails and fresh coconuts all day long delivered straight to your sun lounger.

On top of all this, they also offer an afternoon tea for only IDR 95k a person! Even at the risk of spoiling our appetite for dinner in the evening, we certainly couldn’t turn down such a bargain (especially as I’m a massive afternoon tea fan) so decided to share one between us. As with their lunch menu, the food was perfectly sized and beautifully presented for an afternoon snack. Each of the bite size sandwiches and cakes were delicious!

For a five star hotel the cocktails were very reasonably priced and during the daily happy hour certain cocktails were BOGOF. Veering away from the traditional cocktails Bisma Eight offers some favourites with a Balinese twist, including a a pina colada made with pandan juice and a yummy strawberry martini!

I love the design of the room and that bathtub is simply amazing! I’d love to relax in it, with a glass of wine, same as you. The resort’s infinity pool is so pretty as well! Swimming in there at sunset must be so dreamy!

Beautifully written. Fallen in love with this place. Have been to Bali, and stayed at Nusa Dua. But Bisma eight looks spectacular and that barrel shaped bath tub is so different.
