Many cruise ships dock in George Town for a day exploring Grand Cayman as part of a longer Caribbean cruise, however for those wishing to get a proper taste of the Cayman Islands will need to stay a little longer. The easiest way to reach the Cayman Islands is by plane with many direct flights from major US cities and a semi-direct flight (via the Bahamas) from London Heathrow. The sister islands can be reached via daily flights from Grand Cayman, operated by Cayman Airways.
Whilst there’s a swathe of hotels along Seven Mile Beach, if you’re scuba diving during your time in Grand Cayman there’s only one place to stay, Sunset House, complete with amazing shore diving! On the sister islands enjoy the Caribbean barefoot experience paired with diving at Southern Cross Club (Little Cayman) or paired with a spa and wellness facilities at Le Soleil d’Or (Cayman Brac).
Culinary influences in the Caymans come from far and wide, not only can you find super fresh local specialities such as fish and conch, but also Thai and Indian plates. Enjoy fine dining waterside at The Lobster Pot or Cracked Conch or head to one of the local fish shacks for a more rustic, yet authentic, meal. On the sister islands majority of accommodation is full board and therefore meals are included due to the lack of options.
After a day of exploring or scuba diving in the Caribbean, a sunset drink is always on the cards. Head to My Bar at Sunset House for one of the best views of the sun setting and a cold beer, or linger with your toes in the sand at Kaibo as the light fades. Fine wine lovers should head to West Indies Wine Company, serving many wines by the glass. On the sister islands, similarly to dining, guests tend to stay on site and enjoy a drink or two at the hotel bar (no need for shoes!)
There are two main reasons to visit the Cayman Islands – excellent scuba diving and powdery white beaches! With 365 dive sites across the three islands there’s plenty of underwater adventures to be had, two sites not to miss out on are the Kittiwake shipwreck and an unforgettable experience with sting rays out in Sting Ray City. Aside from diving, take a break from the hectic life, wander along the stunning Seven Mile Beach and relax in the warm Caribbean sunshine.
