Johannesburg is very well connected, both to other parts of South Africa and to several major cities globally. There are regular flights from London, New York and many African cities to OR Tambo International airport, located a 20 minute drive from central Johannesburg. Long distance buses and several train routes operate from Park Station to all over South Africa, the station itself is vast and can be confusing so its best to arrive with plenty of time before your bus or train leaves.

Majority of travellers use Johannesburg as their entry point into South Africa, travelling on down to the Garden Route or heading towards Kruger for a safari adventure, although there’s more to see in Johannesburg than most people think. Head to Soweto to learn more about South Africa’s history at Mandela’s House or the Apartheid Museum, or drive out to Lion Park in Gauteng to get up close and personal with these amazing big cats.
