Sleek Minimalist Hotel
Location: Orchard Road, Singapore
Style: Ultra Minimalism
Budget: £
Lloyd’s Inn Singapore seeks to reflect true minimalism, doing away with the unnecessary cushions on the bed and pieces of art on the wall, and instead focussing on the key useful items all travellers require. The white haven that remains offers guests a place to escape the bustling city and relax in the plunge pool, or up on the roof terrace, surrounded by greenery in this quiet corner of the River Valley district.
Staying at Lloyd's Inn Singapore
Redesigned by Farm, a Singaporean design practice, Lloyd’s Inn Singapore has been constructed as a celebration of natural materials and the relationship between nature, space, light and texture. Double height windows, massive skylights and hidden green courtyards feature across the hotel alongside clean, white decor and minimalist signage.
With just 34 rooms in this boutique hotel, and eight different types of room to choose from you can pick the one that suits your way of travelling, whether that be the Garden room with a small slice of outdoors to relax within or the Sky room with an outdoor bathtub. All rooms are thoughtfully designed with minimal décor, clean lines and a nod to nature. They all include all the standard amenities you would expect with a large en suite, complimentary toiletries and a small study area if you need to get any work done.
All the bathrooms at Lloyd’s Inn Singapore feature an open air element, whether that be an outdoor shower, bathtub, or if you’re lucky both. Awake in the morning and shower outdoors to the peaceful sound of birds tweeting before heading out into bustling Singapore. Opt for the Big Sky room for the ultimate bathroom where the pièce de résistance is the large outdoor bathtub where you can relax underneath the sun or stars!
Away from the monochrome rooms there are several areas to relax at Lloyd’s Inn, including a rooftop terrace and a tranquil mini outdoor pool located outside the front of the hotel amongst the lush vegetation. Take a dip in the sparkling blue waters away from the frantic Singapore traffic and forget where you are entirely. With day beds, sun loungers and funky looking swing chairs (note to self: these might look awesome but they’re not easy to get into!) there’s plenty of spaces to unwind.
Dining at Lloyd's Inn Singapore
In keeping with the minimalist theme, there are no bars or restaurants on site at Lloyd’s Inn. Instead there is a small pantry kitted out with a microwave, coffee machine and full range of cutlery that you are welcome to make use of at any time. You are also only a stone’s throw from Orchard Road with a multitude of delicious restaurants and swanky bars to explore.
Restaurant Recommendation: Bistecca
With many fantastic restaurants nearby it's hard to pick where to venture for dinner, I highly recommend Bistecca. Famed for their steaks, and with good reason, you must try their sharing wagyu T-bone steak! A romantic atmosphere and excellent wine list make this a very popular spot.
Breakfast is included within a night’s stay at Lloyd’s Inn Singapore at one of two local cafes just round the corner from the hotel. Killiney Kopitiam offers a traditional Singaporean breakfast of kaya toast and coffee, whereas Freshly Baked offers more Western dishes for a small additional fee. There are also several grocery stores nearby if you want to make your own breakfast.
Key Information about Lloyd's Inn Singapore
How to get to Lloyd’s Inn Singapore?
Lloyd’s Inn is located just off Orchard Road, Singapore’s famous shopping street. Fort Canning (Downtown line) and Somerset (North South line) MRT stations are a short ten minute walk from Lloyd’s Inn. If coming from the airport I recommend either grabbing a taxi, which should cost no more than SGD $35 for the half an hour ride. You can also get a bus directly from the airport, alighting at Winsland House bus stop, costing a mere SGD $3 each although the journey time is around an hour.
What are the Lloyd’s Inn room rates?
The eight different room types at Lloyd’s Inn Singapore are split into four categories in terms of luxury and also in terms of pricing. The basic, standard room costs SGD $160 per night, with the Garden room (including a small private garden) and Reading room (complete with armchair) priced in the premium category for SGD $180, both very reasonable for the uber-expensive Orchard Road neighbourhood.
The deluxe rooms are well worth the little bit extra with the Big Garden room (including an outdoor area to relax in), Business room (complete with ergonomic work space) and Sky room (including an epic outdoor bathtub) all sitting within this group at SGD $220 a night. Their two suites – the Big Sky room (where we stayed) and the Patio room (inclusive of a a large outdoor dining and seating area) complete the collection at SGD $270 per night.
Our final thoughts on... Lloyd's Inn Singapore
We loved the minimalist concept flowing through Lloyd’s Inn Singapore, from the pristine white walls to the floor to ceiling windows creating large, bright open spaces blending into hidden green spaces we felt far removed from the busy city of Singapore. Although the rooms may seem sparse upon entering, all the essential items are cleverly hidden within the room with lots of thoughtful touches also present. I particularly loved the beautiful hand printed silk kaftan provided for use during your stay (as modelled by me in all the photos above!) – I loved it so much that I wanted to buy one from the lobby. With only one night at Lloyd’s Inn Singapore we didn’t get chance to explore the local area as much as we’d like although Lloyd’s Inn provide a helpful travel guide detailing the best places to check out.
