Capital of the Spanish Balearic Islands, Palma, lies on the island of Mallorca meaning the easiest way to get here is by plane. There are frequent inexpensive flights from many European cities to Palma airport which is only a short bus ride from the city centre. If coming from neighbouring Spanish cities or islands you can look into taking the ferry to Palma, mostly these originate from Ibiza, Valencia or Barcelona.
There are plenty of gorgeous boutique hotels to choose from within the winding lanes of Palma’s old town. For a unique stay try Convent de la Missio, a lovingly restored 17th century nunnery which has been carefully designed to retain elements of the original architecture. Another top choice is the decadent Can Bordoy hotel where the garden seems to run wild creeping into the mansion and suites come with epic freestanding bathtubs.
Mallorca is an island for foodies and we thoroughly enjoyed every meal of our stay! With seven Michelin star restaurants dotted across the island you’ll struggle picking where to go for dinner. Adrian Quetglas and Marc Fosh, both hold a Michelin star and are great spots for fine dining in Palma both offering great value lunch menus. For a more local affair head to Mercado Gastronomico San Juan where you can enjoy live music and a range of delicious Spanish dishes.
There’s a type of bar for everyone in Palma. If you fancy a delicious cocktail head to Ginbo where alongside cocktails you can also try any gin you’ve ever heard of. If you want a stunning view with your drink then climb up to 49 steps where you can take in views of the marine and La Seu (Palma’s famous cathedral) while you sip on a chilled glass of wine. And finally if you want an experience you’ll never forget then seek out Bar Abaco the whackiest bar in Palma where candles flicker and fruit overflows from ancient vases.
The most iconic building in Palma, and our must visit of the city, is La Seu Cathedral. Enter the cathedral to enjoy the 61 stained glass windows or wander through Parc de la Mar for views of La Seu across the lake. For something more modern head to Es Baluard and take in the contemporary art before relaxing on the terrace with a glass of sangria.
